DETERMINANT FACTORS AFFECTING BREAST MILK PRODUCTION IN THE SECOND WEEK POSTPARTUM
Abstract
Most babies in the world still do not get breast milk in the first hour of life and exclusive breastfeeding (44%), while in Indonesia only 35% are under WHO recommendations (50%). Insufficient milk production is the main reason for the failure of breastfeeding, especially in the second week postpartum when the milk is mature, the mother finally decides to use additional supplements and even give formula milk to meet her baby's needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the determinant factors that could affect milk production in the second week postpartum. This type of research is analytic with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted in August-September 2021 at the Independent Practice of Midwives Husniyati Palembang. The population is all postpartum mothers in the second week. A total sample of 41 people was taken by the total sampling method. The results of the chi-square statistical test and assessing the Odds Ratio (OR) showed that there was no significant relationship between the independent variable and milk production in the second week postpartum where ρ value > 0.05, for the income variable OR=2.381, meaning mothers with income ≥ UMR has a 2x chance of having good milk production compared to other variables. The conclusion is that there is no significant relationship between age, education, occupation, income, parity, and Body Mass Index (BMI) with milk production in the second week postpartum.
